The morning after...
Falling out is part of falling in. We've all been there, and in 'First Light', I wanted to capture the waking moments after a fall out. The song mixes inner monologue melancholy, confession and admission and hopeful visions of greatness, a mix I think we all go through in those moments.
Musically, I've tried to capture these three phases too. There's a zippy little synth line in the intro, and then echoing stabs through the verses, with rainbow-esque climbs through the chorus. It's another song on the album I'm most proud of. While on paper it deals with a dark and unpleasant part of love, the music lifts it into something far more hopeful and poetic.
Lyrics
Can we talk about last night?Didn't mean to have that fightIt was stupid, it was obvious.
Can we talk about last night?Didn't mean to have that fightReally risking every thread of us.
