An edgy opener
I wanted to see if I could fuse two polar opposites here. Maqam singing - traditional arabic scale climbing heady vocals - and the thumping darkwave electro sound of Nine Inch Nails.
It took a LOT to get them to sit nicely, but the result is kind of a darkwave desert rave. As it started to come together I just knew this would open the album. It's artsy, overdramatic, and I found myself literally playing the early demos of it on loop.
Lyrics wise, it goes back to a time I was living in Manchester on my own, longing for love but looking in all the wrong places. It kind of taps into the inner thoughts of being 'single and looking' as I was back then.
